  • We did our bird count on December 17, 2011 in an area with a circle of 24 km diameter surrounding Sussex.

    The sky was clear and the ground was lightly frozen. The moving water was open and there was no wind. The temperature was between -8 and -2 degree Celsius.

    There were 13 field observers working in 7 field parties. One person was observing their bird feeders at home. We started at 8.00am and finished at 4.30pm. The total party-hours were 40.5, 14.25 hours on foot and 26.25 hours by car. The total party-km were 329, 22 km on foot and 307 km by car.

    The compilers were; John Arisz, Wilma Arisz, Garth Bishop, Jim Brown, Darren Byers, Dianne McFarlane, Eldon Thorne, Therese Peurimaki and Stephen Peurimaki.

    Total for birds are 1562 individuals of 30 species on count day plus 3 species during count period
